Each year in October, organizations and individuals speak out against bullying and the cultures and systems that allow it to thrive. As we build awareness and join together, this ongoing problem can be minimized tremendously year over year until it’s finally stopped altogether.

With juveniles, bullies are 30% more likely to carry a weapon to school or get injured in a fight compared with non-bullying classmates (pediatric and adolescent medicine – a report by fight crime, invest in kids). The youth who start as bullies are far more likely to fight, steal, vandalize, drink alcohol, smoke, and have poor grades throughout their school years. In fact, one study showed that 60% of male bullies in grades 6-9 had at least one criminal conviction by the age of 24, compared with 23% of males who did not bully (Fox, Elliot et al., 2003, Parents, Let’s Unit for Kids).

All fifty states have anti-bullying laws; however, bullying is still extremely prevalent and has a huge impact on juvenile court systems since many bullies end up as part of that system. If these youth are to be helped, there must be more systems in place to address root problems so they don’t resort to crime and violence. This not only changes the lives of the former bully, but it prevents bully victims from pain, suffering, and sometimes even death.

Off the Record – Final Issue

This month will be the last issue ofOff The Record. After 2 full years of publishing this monthly magazine, we have decided not to continue with it in 2020. In our December 1st episode of Trial Lawyer Nation, Michael Cowen sits down with Delisi Friday our Director of Marketing and Business Development and discusses this decision and how it was determined in more detail.
