The Stop Underrides Act

Image
Last month , Consumer Reports, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, the Truck Safety Coalition, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, and the National Safety Council Road to Zero Coalition announced their support for the Stop Underrides Act. The Stop Underrides Act is a bill that would “direct the U.S. Department of Transportation to issue rules requiring strong metal bars on the rear, sides, and front of trailers, semi-trailers, and single-unit trucks.” In the event of a collision, underride guards have been proven to help stop a vehicle from continuing underneath a truck. The metal bar guards will improve the likelihood that a car’s air bags and other protection systems can function to keep the occupant safer while also lessening the chances for windshield-first crashes. David Friedman, VP of Advocacy for Consumer Reports, said the following, “Stronger underride guards on trucks will make these crashes far less severe. The technology is there—what’s been missing is the will t...

In the era of social media, law firms across the globe are learning how to use different social media platforms to market their law firms. But how do you decide which one is right for you? Is it Facebook or is it Twitter? The answer is simple: both. The better question you should be asking is, “HOW do you use Facebook and Twitter differently to market a law firm?” To find out the answer we must first understand who uses each platform. Twitter has 69 million active users in the United States, with 36% of those users between the ages of 18 and 29. In 2017 a whopping 74% of Twitter users said they use the network to receive their news. But Facebook, in contrast, has a higher number of users who depend on it to stay in touch with people in their life. Understanding this data will help you decide how to use Facebook and Twitter differently. Twitter should ...

Being “Social” Can Affect Your Personal Injury Settlement

Image
Billions of people use social media daily, with some people posting every detail of their life on display for their friends and family. What many don’t realize is, regardless of privacy settings, social content can still be found. It’s important to ensure your personal injury clients are aware that their social media posts can heavily affect their claim… at any time. Opposing counsel and insurance companies will scour social media channels to see if there is anything that can be used to discredit a case during litigation. But after litigation ends, we must remember to advise our client and their family of how their social interactions can hurt their case even after it is over. In almost all of our personal injury cases, there is a detailed confidentiality clause. This not only applies to us, it also applies to our clients. And when it comes to discussing money received from a lawsuit, sometimes it is difficult for our clients not to share online. A recent story in the news ec...

Voice search is no longer just for hearing the weather forecast or playing music. Voice search is continuing to grow; Pew Research Center reports 46% of Americans use digital voice assistants. Furthermore, comScore predicts by 2020 that 50% of searches will be done by voice. Initially, you may not think potential clients will use voice search to find an attorney, but the legal industry is already buzzing on how this trend will affect legal marketing. To evolve with the shifting trends, law firms will need to adjust their marketing strategies to include tactics for digital voice devices. Typing vs Talking When people type to search, it’s often just a few key words or phrases. When someone speaks to search, they ask a question as if they are talking to another person. It’s important that the content on your website is curated to the way someone may speak. Having a FAQ page is a great way to address this, listing common questions your target audience may ask in their search. Rem...

Uber Freight: Simplifying the Entire Booking Process

Image
Since September of 2018, Uber Technologies has been testing Uber Freight in the Texas Triangle area for van and refrigerator deliveries. In June of 2019 the full truck-load freight brokerage announced their nationwide roll out. Their goal is to help owner-operator shipping carriers book loads more easily. Its purpose is to simplify the entire booking process. All you have to do is log in to your account, enter your pick-up and drop off information, and then you receive an instant quote. If you like the quoted rate, you can book the shipment. This platform matches commercial shippers with truck drivers looking for a job. These freight rides can be booked the same day or several weeks in advance. The price of the shipments is predetermined. Once the driver gets a shipment where it needs to be, the payment begins processing and the driver will be paid within 7 days. Trucking companies are also partnering up with Uber Freight. If the company is able to sign up enough shippers, dr...
